Dear Friends of Beulah House,

We were overwhelmed with support from the community last Friday and Saturday as people poured in for the yard sale held on Caddell Lane in Dublin.  Thank yous go out to the local media for advertising for us, and for all of those who helped and who bought items at our yard sale.  The house is completely cleaned and ready for new occupants when the Lord sends them our way.  Please continue to pray for a sale very soon; and, please continue to support Beulah House as you are able to sustain us until the end.

Dear Friend,

We wanted you, our closest friends who have stuck with us through thick and thin, to know where we are now. We appreciate a dear local pastor and church for printing this letter for us. In fact, several churches have continued to support us through these months of trying to finish God’s work through Beulah House with strength and honor.

The beautiful property on Caddell Lane has been for sale since January 4th, and we ask that you pray for a speedy sale in this prime, spring season. The property will stand for what we owe the bank; however, the interest payments are our greatest burden, along with final payroll tax obligations that need to be paid as soon as possible. We still have a monthly electric bill as well. Please pray for our faithfully serving Board of Directors as we stand on the front lines doing the business of Beulah House with honor and integrity.

Beulah House has cared for many in the New River Valley with the highest standard of commitment. We accepted residents regardless of their ability to pay for our services, and had a great model based on a balance of donations and fees that worked well until Virginia added over 150 pages of legislation and over $100,000 per year to our operating costs. Now, we grieve with you over the loss that our community must bear.

How can you help us?
First, thank you for praying for Beulah House even as you hold this letter.
Second, we are having a YARD SALE at Beulah House on Friday & Saturday, May 4-5, 8am – 2pm (linens, household items, cabinets, kitchen ware, furniture, medical equipment, appliances, tables, chairs, decorations, P.B.Moss items & lots more).
Third, please post the back of this letter on a church or community bulletin board.
Finally, thank you in advance for sending a generous donation to help us to finish strong!

I work closely with Beulah House’s founder and former director, Judy Epperly. Judy remains on the board of directors and continues to personally bear much of the brunt of financial and emotional burden until we are able to sell the house and settle all of the accounts. Thank you for helping Beulah House with your prayers and giving to sustain the level of care that we gave to 55 individuals over the past five years.  After our fifth birthday celebration in December, we had to close our doors.  And, we write today to let you know where we are now in the process of closing Beulah House and wrapping up loose ends as a non-profit corporation.

First, this has been a heart-wrenching time to see a vision that touched so many lives, of residents, employees, friends, and volunteers, wind to an end.  Beulah House has been more than just another non-profit organization to benefit the good the community.  It has been a ministry of care for the terminally ill that has extended and enriched the lives of everyone involved at every level.  If you have ever played a game of golf to benefit Beulah House, you were attached to its vision.  If you have ever brought a roll of paper towels or other donations, held a resident’s hand as you prayed together, shared a snack at the kitchen table while chatting with the staff, or touched Beulah House in any way, then you felt the calling which compelled its founding.
So, here’s where we are now:

As of December 15, 2011

• Judy Epperly served her last day as administrator and remains a member of the board of directors.
• All residents were successfully re-located in the week prior to this.
• All employees served their final days at Beulah House prior to this.

As of December 31, 2011

• All final payroll checks were distributed after generous donations and a grant from Pentair Corporation were received.
• Preparations began for the selling of the property of Beulah House.

As of today, mid-January, 2011

• The house at 4704 Caddell Lane, Dublin, Virginia, is listed for sale with Louise Baker through Long and Foster Realty, 540-320-0382, louiseybaker@gmail.com.
• The board of directors continues to meet on a regular basis to consider how to meet the remaining financial obligations.

We need your help, as we want to honor all of our commitments remaining for Beulah House.  We are still a 501-c-3 non-profit corporation, and your contributions are tax deductible.  If you have been giving on a regular basis, please continue to do so through this year or until we are able to finish meeting these financial obligations and dissolve the organization.  If you can give an extra gift today, this would relieve many penalties and interest that is being assessed by those companies not willing to offer us mercy during these trying times.  We truly do need your assistance, as we still have over $15,000 in immediate and pressing obligations.  Some of these are as small as a bill for $24.00, and others are as large as $6500.00.  But, all are obligations that we intend to fund in order to finish well.

We are making progress on making the final arrangements for Beulah House.  The care that we have given to the residents to the very end still needs funding, and we are trying to catch up with employee pay and final bills while needing to sustain the mortgage until the house is sold.  We take these obligations seriously, and pray for the ability to bless all those who have assisted us in providing competent, compassionate care to 55 residents over the past 5 years.  Thank you for your help.

Dear Special Friend of Beulah House:

We count it a joy and privilege to be a part, together with you, of what Beulah House has become in our community. Through 10 years of prayer, diligence, and personal sacrifice, Beulah House has served 55 residents and their families with excellence. The pressures of increasing regulation and economic hardships have brought us to the position of closing our doors in December of 2011 just as we celebrate our 5th anniversary of opening the doors of the house. We write to you today as the Board of Directors of Beulah House, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit assisted-living facility caring for terminally ill residents of the New River Valley with the same mixed feelings that you have as you read this announcement and hope you will read on with care and understanding.

Our noble goals have become harder to accomplish with each passing day in this economy and regulatory environment. The vision and calling that Judy Epperly has made possible with her own life, under the Lord’s guidance, has blessed all of those whose lives Beulah House has touched! This closure is a sad commentary on our state and nation. There are very few resources for those who are terminally ill who do not have a willing or able caregiver in the home. That is why Beulah House has met a critical need in the community in God’s very special time from 2006 to 2011. Together with you, our investment has been wisely placed with dividends of life that cannot be measured in earthly terms.

We need your support as we give every effort to finish honorably and do right by our obligations to current residents; to Judy Epperly, who has delayed compensation for hundreds of hours of labor as an RN and Administrator; to our current employees, who need pay for their noble work; and, to all vendors associated with Beulah House through the time of the sale of the property. The Board of Directors met on November 19th hoping to find a solution to move forward and fund Beulah House into 2012. We put up our own wherewithal to partially meet the prior week’s payroll. Then, we met on November 22nd to accept our Administrator, Judy Epperly’s, resignation which came after much prayer and considerations of her personal health and well being. The Board voted unanimously and sympathetically to accept Judy’s resignation which is effective December 15, 2011. We proceed now to close Beulah House, liquidate its assets with minimal overhead until the facility is sold, and to dissolve the organization in a lawful, orderly, and timely manner.

We would love to see a great outpouring of consistent support so that Beulah House can finish honorably and pay its obligations, especially to our dedicated founder! The money you donate is kept in this community and is not in vain—in that it supports the care being given and meets obligations as a result of the care already given to 55 residents. Please support us through this difficult time, knowing that we will take honorable care of ALL of our obligations in full. Please take the enclosed card and help us as you feel led. THANK YOU for your heartfelt considerations.

Beulah House opened the doors in Dublin, Virginia, 5 years ago! Thankfulness fills our hearts to have cared for dozens of residents and served their families over the past five years.  This IS VIRGINIA’s FIRST HOUSE OF THIS TYPE, as a home for hospice patients that has greatly increased the quality and quantity of life of those who have taken advantage of this remarkable care.

Please BE OUR GUESTS between Noon & 8pm on Sunday, December 4, or Monday, December 5, 2011, for our Birthday Open House celebration. We will have some cookies and goodies for your.  Also, bring a donation for the Christmas Money Tree that will be in the living room of the house, as Beulah House’s sustenance comes from the generosity of donors who support us as a non-profit, tax-exempt ministry.

THANK YOU, Community, for a great success at our 1st Annual STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL Beulah House Benefit at Sinkland Farms near Riner, VA, on APRIL 30.  We truly had a wonderful turn-out and will make this an annual event on the last Saturday of April each year, Lord willing.  We appreciate the support of local businessess and individuals who volunteered time and materials to make this possible.  The mission of Beulah House is to provide competent, compassionate care to the terminally ill in a home environment.  Mrs. Judy Epperly, RN, Administrator, continues to allow the Lord to use her life wholly to make sure this mission goes forward.  Beulah House is a non-profit organization providing care regardless of financial ability to pay for the services provided.  So, the benevolence of donors and the participation of the community in fund-raising events is key to the survival of the only HOME providing this beautiful and needed service in southwest Virginia! 

So, what’s coming next year at the Strawberry Festival?  MORE STRAWBERRIES!!!!  We sold out early this year, but rest assured that next year we will order more tasty NC Berries!!!  Mark your calendars and sign up today for our newsletter to know how and when you can help support Beulah House.

Beulah House will be holding a donation ceremony on Thursday, October 7, at 12:30pm with local businessman Stan Moran and others responsible for the 6th Annual Xpress Mart Beulah House Golf Outing. The ceremony will be held at Beulah House, 4704 Caddell Ln Dublin, VA and is expected to last about one half hour. Congratulations to Lou Francisco of West Virginia who just won a beautiful new 2011 F150 Club Cab from Duncan Automotive in Blacksburg!! Lou won the hole in one challenge this morning at the Fifth Annual Xpress Market Beulah House Golf Outing at Draper Valley Golf Course.

The outing will continue all day today, Friday, August 20. The media is welcome to join participants and organizers for lunch at noon and dinner around 7pm.
